Political map of Northern Africa 13 May 68 AD (Macer’s Rebellion): In 68 AD Vindex (Gaius Julius Vindex) and Galba led the western Roman provinces in revolt against Emperor Nero. They were supported by the African legions (Legio III Augusta) under Lucius Clodius Macer, who cut off the vital African grain supply to Rome (History of Roman-era Tunisia). However, when Galba supplanted Nero, Macer refused to relinquish his command and was killed.
