Game of Thrones 116AC: We Light the Way

After his victory over the Triarchy, Daemon Targaryen submitted to King Viserys I and restored his relations with the Crown. However, when Daemon scandalously took Crown Princess Rhaenyra to a brothel in King’s Landing, the King promptly exiled him a second time and also pressured Rhaenyra to marry Ser Laenor Velaryon.

S1 E4 / 116AC Submission of Daemon Targaryen

After his defeat of the Triarchy in the Stepstones, Daemon Targaryen returned to King’s Landing on his dragon Caraxes. Upon reaching the throne room, he marched up to the Iron Throne and presented his crown of bone and driftwood—representing his naming as “King of the Narrow Sea”—to his brother King Viserys I. Viserys accepted this token of allegiance and welcomed him back to the court. see external link

S1 E4 / 116AC Second exile of Daemon Targaryen

On the same day that Daemon Targaryen submitted to his brother King Viserys I, Viserys’s daughter Rhaenyra also returned to King’s Landing after an unsuccessful months-long tour of Westeros to choose a consort. After talking together, Daemon and Rhaenyra sneak out in disguise to explore the streets of King’s Landing and eventually ended up kissing in a brothel. Learning of their liaison, Ser Otto Hightower, Hand of the King, reported the matter to Viserys, who rejected Daemon’s offer to marry Rhaenyra and exiled him for a second time—this time to the Vale of Arryn. To avoid scandal, Viserys then insisted that Rhaenyra marry Ser Laenor Velaryon, but also dismissed Otto as Hand for having her stalked. see external link

S1 E5 / 116AC Murder of Rhea Royce

After being exiled by King Viserys I, Daemon Targaryen returned to his home in Runestone, in the Vale of Arryn. Nearby, in the fields of the Vale, he found his wife Rhea Royce out hunting and, after frightening her horse into rearing up and falling over, killed her. Later, when he unexpectedly attended Princess Rhaenyra and Ser Laenor’s wedding feast, Daemon dismissed his wife’s death as a “tragic accident” and remarked that he fully expected to inherit her lands. see external link

S1 E5 / 116AC Wedding of Rhaenyra and Laenor

After her scandalous visit to a brothel in King’s Landing, Princess Rhaenyra agreed to marry Ser Laenor Velaryon as an act of alliance and to produce heirs. At their wedding feast in King’s Landing, Laenor’s lover, Ser Joffrey Lonmouth, approached Ser Criston Cole, guessing that he was Rhaenyra’s lover. Outraged by what he saw as a blackmail attempt, Criston turned on Joffrey and beat him to death in front of the guests. As a result, Viserys canceled the wedding festivities and Rhaenyra married Laenor in a private ceremony. see external link
