Game of Thrones 100: Winter is Coming
Roughly seventeen years after Robert’s Rebellion overthrew “Mad” King Aerys Targaryen and Robert Baratheon became king of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, Robert requested Ned Stark, his old friend and Warden of the North, to come to the capital of King’s Landing to become Hand of the King (chief adviser). Ned agreed, despite rumors of the return of the mythological White Walkers to the wild lands north of the Wall.
? ?? 101 Ned Stark as Hand of King▲
Following the suspicious death of the Hand of the King, Jon Arryn, King Robert Baratheon of the Seven Kingdoms arrives in Winterfell with much of the royal court to name his old friend Eddard Stark, Warden of the North, as the new Hand. Although reluctant, Eddard realizes that Robert badly needs his help in the capital King’s Landing and is further enticed when the King offers to betroth his son and heir Joffrey to Eddard’s daughter Sansa. Finally, receiving secret word from his wife Catelyn’s sister Lysa Arryn that the Lannister family were involved in Jon Arryn’s death, he agrees to become Hand and return with Robert to King’s Landing, taking both of his daughters to introduce them at court.
? ?? 101 Drogo and Daenerys▲
Illyrio and Prince Viserys Targaryen arrange the marriage of Viserys’s sister Daenerys to Khal Drogo in return for Drogo supplying Dothraki troops to support Viserys’s play for the Iron Throne of Westeros. Drogo agrees, after inspecting Daenerys in the Free City of Pentos, but does not stipulate a time frame. Drogo marries Daenerys outside Pentos, but is unable to communicate with his new wife due to neither of them sharing a common language.
