Political map of Europe & the Mediterranean 20 September 1918 (Allied Hundred Days Offensive): The 1918 German Spring offensives (Ludendorff Offensive) had ground to a halt by mid July. With the Germans exhausted and the arrival of fresh American troops, the Allies (Allies of World War I) were ready to launch their own offensives (Hundred Days Offensive). Starting in early August, they soon forced the Germans to retreat. Meanwhile, in the East, the Allies were now advancing rapidly against the Bulgarians in Macedonia (Macedonian front (World War I)) and the Ottoman Turks in Palestine (Sinai and Palestine Campaign), while other Allied forces (Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War) tried to push Russia back into the War (World War I).
