Political map of Europe & the Mediterranean 15 April 74 AD (Vespasian’s reorganization of the East): In the 70s AD Vespasian reorganized the eastern Roman Empire, primarily to strengthen the frontier provinces of Syria (Roman Syria) and Cappadocia (Cappadocia (Roman province)). Galatia (Galatia (Roman province)) was added to Cappadocia, Lycia and Pamphylia (Lycia et Pamphylia) were combined, and the client states of Rhodes, Commagene (Kingdom of Commagene), and Emesa (Emesene Kingdom) were annexed.
