Political map of China, Japan, Korea, and Mongolia 19 October 1950 (Battle of Chamdo): The Kingdom of Tibet (Tibet (1912–1951)) had broken away from China in 1912. With the Civil War (Chinese Civil War) at an end, the People's Republic quickly moved to reassert Chinese authority. In a short campaign over the disputed Chamdo region (Invasion of Tibet (1950)), it forced Tibet to sue for peace. Mao (Mao Zedong) was now free to face the crisis in Korea (Korean War).
